Nate Castillo - Sculptor
I make art so I can sleep at night. When and idea comes to me I file it away and carry on with my life. But some ideas refuse to be ignored. They slowly start to work their way into my consciousness until they have dominated my thoughts so thoroughly that I cant sleep. It is these persistent ideas that I choose to make reality. I never know what will kick my brain into gear or where the sleep disrupting inspiration will send me. My work is a representation of this organic process. It is intended to activate the viewer's imagination allowing them to define what the work means to them from their own individual perspective. Viewing my work does not necessarily require any insight into my personal motivation for its creation. I take great joy in the fact that the emotions or ideas my work may conjure in the viewer can be completely different from the emotions or ideas that caused me to lose countless hours of sleep.
